FAQs

Q: When is the best time to get my gown?

A: It is strongly recommended to have got your gown on order no later than six months before the event to allow time for the dress to be made (each gown is made to order rather than being sold “off the peg”) this is around 12-16 weeks depending on the manufacturer.  Either way this is industry standard and will not vary significantly from one bridal shop to another.

The reason bridal shops give this six month recommendation is to allow time to have your gown altered (perhaps a length adjustment).  This is conducted by a seamstress rather than the manufacturer and will rely on you and her marrying up (pardon the pun!)  at least two convenient fitting dates  from the time your dress arrives in store to just before the wedding.  Bear in mind this will be the busiest time in the run up to the wedding and therefore this is why ideally we advise brides to order about 9-12 months before the wedding (This also allows enough time to send the gown back to the manufacturer if there is a fault that needs to be rectified by them or requires a replacement…although no need to panic as this is thankfully very rare)
